LossLit has three open submission windows annually. We will not read anything submitted to us outside of these dates so please note the following as well as our submission guidelines before sending in your work to the editorial team. 

JANUARY 1-31, open submissions for our APRIL issue

MAY 1-31, open submissions for AUGUST issue

SEPTEMBER 1-30, open submissions for DECEMBER issue

General Guidelines:

We particularly welcome submissions from women writers, writers belonging to ethnic minority groups, members of the LGBQT community, and other groups currently under-represented within the publishing industry. Simultaneous submissions are fine, but please notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere. By submitting your work, you are agreeing to be signed up to our newsletter. No details are shared with any third parties, and you can unsubscribe easily at any time.

We are looking for original (i.e., previously unpublished) works in the following categories, and encourage all interpretations of loss, from the sincere to the comic, via social commentary, personal memoir, and creative exploration of subjects including but not limited to: displacement, gender, the environment, bereavement, ageing, memory, nationality, history, politics, sexuality, relationships, love, crisis and faith. For an idea of what we like, please read our past issues and do have a look at our Twitter feed, where we share all contributions to our monthly online writeclub (held on the first Wednesday of every month, 9-11pm UK time, open to all).

Poetry: Max. 1x A4 page of written work; any spoken word pieces to be no longer than 4 minutes of recorded audio

Fiction: Flash Fiction (max 500 words) and Short Story (max 3,000 words)

Non-fiction: Creative Essays (max 2,000 words)

Please also send a short biography along with your work. Work should be attached as a Word document or copied into the body of the email, to with the subject header ‘Submission LossLit Magazine’.
